Soft and intense
Piercing through your eyes
What could you see in me?
Veiled behind the smile
Is a furious storm of tears
Behind the silence
Is a crescendo of unspoken words
The engulfing darkness within
Is what I could not bear for you to see
So I retreat from your light
Further into the turbulent thoughts
Of what we could have been
Had I let your light pierce through
The darkness that is me.
